“Waaaaah, it’s raining!” were my first woeful thoughts when I woke up on this particular October morning for a couple’s photoshoot around Winchester Cathedral. Why continue with a photoshoot in the rain? Weren’t there any other options? You may well ask! However, as any wedding photographer will tell you, we have to be ready and game for anything as, after all, there’s no knowing what sort of weather you’ll have on your wedding day. So even though this couple’s photoshoot could’ve been rearranged for another day, we all decided to just go with it. And you know what? We had great fun anyway!
Although this is the UK and people often complain about the wet weather, amazingly enough this was the first outdoor couple photoshoot where I’ve had rain to contend with. This presented a few new challenges, including:
- Working quickly but without rushing or stressing so we could get some lovely relaxed-looking photos and still get out of the rain ASAP!
- Finding some undercover locations out of the rain so we didn’t get completely drenched
- Trying to take photos whilst also holding an umbrella (not so easy, I can tell you!)
Luckily for us, we found enough shelter under the cathedral’s archways along Curle’s Passage, in doorways in and around the Inner Close, and under the 15th century Priory Gate. So we managed pretty well, given the circumstances!
To add another dimension to this photoshoot, I’d asked a friend and fellow photographer, Kathryn of Kathryn Fell Photography, if she’d come along and take some behind-the-scenes footage. This way, the coverage from this photoshoot will hopefully give you an even better idea of what to expect from a photoshoot with me (even if it rains!).
Top job guys! Many thanks to the lovely couple Will and Lisa for being such great sports and not caring about the rain. You were a dream to photograph, needing hardly any direction, just doing your own thing resulting in some lovely, natural photos of you both looking cute and so in love! Thanks too to Kathryn for also braving the weather and capturing these great behind-the-scenes shots for me.
Are you planning a wet wedding in Winchester? No? I didn’t think so! Haha! But if you are planning your wedding and looking for a photographer who’s game whatever the weather, then I’d love to hear from you! Please get in touch.
