Ah Venice! Could you be the most romantic city of all time? There’s just something so unique and striking about that city of canals, don’t you think? I was therefore super excited to be invited to an intimate destination wedding in Venice in late September. And what a wedding it was too!
Heading out the door on the wedding morning there was a distinct chill in the air. But once we escaped the labyrinth of shady alleyways, we stepped out into glorious sunshine along the Grand Canal. Just look at that view across the water to Santa Maria della Salute!
Arriving at the Palazzo Cavalli for the wedding ceremony, we were met by the small wedding party of just 15 people, including Sarah and Georg (the bride and groom). Sarah was unconventionally dressed in a short yet elegant soft pink linen dress with definite wow-factor! (I mean if you can’t wear the dress you want on your wedding day, when can you?)
The civil ceremony went by in the blink of an eye. With minutes to spare before the next wedding party were due for their ceremony, we grabbed a few quick photos from the balcony overlooking the Grand Canal.
Next we had a leisurely stroll and crossed back over the Rialto Bridge for the wedding reception at Hotel Aman – a stunning Palazzo with beautifully frescoed rococo and neo-Renaissance interiors and exquisite food. What a treat!
Sticking with the trend of doing things their own way and not following tradition, Sarah and Georg chose not to have a wedding cake and have Italian gelato instead. (But then, why not? Especially when it tastes sooooo good?!)
After being thoroughly spoilt with all that good food, we took a boat ride and watched the sunset across the city. Now, it doesn’t get much more romantic than that, does it?
Here are a few favourite photos from their special day.
And finally, just a few words from the bride:
“Lorna did an amazing job shooting our wedding in Venice. She captured the mood of the day so perfectly, and so many of the little details that others might have overlooked too. Everyone felt incredibly comfortable in her presence, resulting in very natural images. Her beautiful photos are something we will treasure for the rest of our lives – in fact, I would say that they made an already perfect day even better!”
